The 2-1-1 Northeast Regional Collaborative United Way will administer a $6.9 million grant in the 2006-2007 state budget to implement a 24-hour help line across New York State.
2,296,856 = The dollar amount brought back to the Capital Region in 2007, through tax returns filed at UWNENY Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites.
From January to April 2007, 13 UWNENY Family Resource Centers throughout the Capital Region filed 2,475 federal and state tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance /Earned Income Tax Credit Program. Free tax preparation aside, these resource centers offer financial literacy classes, through partnering organizations, in an effort to help all who choose to use their tax refund to begin the process of asset management.
In 2006, 59 percent of UWNENY VITA customers, planned to use their refund to open bank accounts.
